Funeral Services for Nema A. Johnson will be conducted from the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, Nebraska on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverends Tom Thompson and Robert Wigert, officiating. Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.
Nema Alvina (Veegert) Johnson, 87 years of age, of Loomis, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Christian Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska. She was born September 28, 1920 at Beatrice, Nebraska. As an infant, Nema was adopted by her parents and joyfully entered the life as the only child of Axel and Effie (Murphy) Veegert of Loomis. She was confirmed at the Loomis Evangelical Free Church. Nema received her education at Loomis, graduating from Loomis High School with the class of 1938. She then pursued higher education at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska.
Following her education, Nema relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where she met Robert Wesley Johnson and on July 25, 1942 the couple was united in marriage. To this union two sons were born: Clifford and Charles. While Bob served his country in the South Pacific during WW II, Nema returned home to Loomis to the Veegert family home. Nema and Bob raised their sons and continued to reside in the family home where Nema grew up. Nema was employed by the Loomis Public School as the secretary/bookkeeper from 1956 until 1971. She then worked for the Holdrege Public Schools from 1971 until her retirement in 1985. Since February of 2008, Nema was blessed with loving care at the Christian Homes.
The couple enjoyed traveling to Denmark and Sweden after their retirement and spending time with their family. She was a past member of the Methodist Church in Loomis, prior to the closing of the church. For many years Nema served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the church.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Robert of Loomis; two sons: Cliff Johnson and his wife, Janelle of Trenton, Nebraska and Chuck Johnson and his wife, Ellen of Holdrege; six grandchildren: Paula Johnson of Trenton, David Johnson and his wife, Tiffany of Lytle, Texas, Scott Johnson of Kearney, Nebraska, Erik Johnson and his wife, Amy of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Aaron and Kate Johnson both of Holdrege; five great-grandchildren: Brook, Isaac, Brandon, Sunny and Chloe; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, John Howard Johnson.
Nema will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, July 24, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
