Memorial Services for Neola (Benson) Mosman will be conducted from the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr., officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, prior to the services.
Neola B. (Benson) Mosman, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at her home in Holdrege, following a courageous battle with cancer. Neola Belle Cain was born September 18, 1926 at Salix, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Melvina (Rush) Cain. She received her education at Salix, graduating from Salix High School with the class of 1944.
In 1947, she was united in marriage to Clark Benson of Pipestone, Minnesota. To this union three children were born: Lyle Charles, Frederick Lee, and Linda Sue. They engaged in farming at Salix for five years. In 1952, the family moved to a farm at Homer, Nebraska. While living at Homer, Clark went to work as territory manager for Northrup King Seeds. The family then moved to Yankton, South Dakota for two years.
In 1961, they moved Holdrege, where Neola was a homemaker. They were members of the Bethel Lutheran Church. In 1966, Neola was employed as an aide and secretary for the Title I program at the Holdrege Public Schools. She resigned from her position in December of 1979. In October of 1980, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clark.
In 1984, Neola was united in marriage to Kenneth Freeman Mosman of Worcester, Massachusetts. The couple enjoyed splitting their time between Naples, Florida and Johnson Lake, Nebraska for ten years. They continued to reside in Naples until 1996, when they moved to Waynesville, North Carolina for four years. In 2000, they returned to Holdrege to be near their family. While in Holdrege, they enjoyed their church membership at the First Presbyterian Church.
Besides her husband, Clark and her parents, Neola was preceded in death by one grandson: Eric Benson; four brothers: Clarie, Charles Wesley, Clyde and Myrvin; and three sisters: Myrna, Daisy and Hazel.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Kenneth of Holdrege; two sons: Lyle Benson and his wife, Krishna of McKinney, Texas and Frederick "Rick" Benson and his wife, Sheila of Omaha, Nebraska; one daughter, Linda Swanson of Kearney, Nebraska; two sisters: Marian Gunsolley and her husband, Earl of Stanton, Nebraska and Berniece Livengood and her husband, Richard "Dick" of Sioux City, Iowa; four grandchildren: Christopher Benson and his wife, Kari, Lisa Schumate and her husband, T.J., Shawna Stratton and Brian Swanson; four step-children: Jane Hess and her husband, Steve of North Grosvenordale, Connecticut, Tim Mosman and his wife, Karen of Lincoln, New Hampshire, Jill Orcutt of Charlton, Massachusetts, and Gale Mosman of North Conway, New Hampshire; eight step-grandchildren: Erin, Casey and Blake Mosman, Miranda and Octavia Mosman, and Kyle, Cameron, and Ethan Hess; four great-grandchildren: Bradley and Peyton Benson, Gabriel Linden, and Bindi Orcutt; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Neola's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
