Norma M Sanders

Celebration of Life Services for Norma M. Sanders will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Nora Mendyk, officiating. Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege following the services.

Norma May Sanders, 82 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Norma was born on June 6, 1934, in Arlington, Nebraska, the youngest of two children born to Harold and May (Wolff) Christ. She received her education from Fremont Public Schools, in Fremont, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1952.

On May 9, 1954, she was united in marriage to Jack Sanders at Fremont, and to this union four children were born: David, Daniel, Linda and Laura. The family made their home in Fremont, where Norma enjoyed her years as a Tupperware Manager. In 1971, Jack and Norma moved to Holdrege, where they purchased the Coast to Coast Hardware Store, which they owned and operated for 24 years.

For many years, the couple enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Harlan County Reservoir, where many family memories were created. On October 14, 1997, Jack preceded her in death.

Norma was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Women's Group and also was past treasurer for the UMW. She also enjoyed many friendship bonds formed in the Dynamite Girls Club, coffee club and card clubs. Norma loved crocheting, sewing and crafting, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed playing cards. Most of all, she treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The past five years, Norma has made her home at Holdrege Memorial Homes, where she received loving care by all the staff.

Besides her parents and husband; Norma was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Marie Sanders; one brother, Raymond Christ; brothers-in-law: Harry Sanders Jr. and his wife, Ruth, Don Sanders and his wife, Lavern and Ron Nyberg; and sister-in-law, Lila Sanders.

Left to celebrate her life are her four children: David Sanders and his wife, Mary Beth of Lincoln, Nebraska, Daniel Sanders and his wife, Dawn of Kearney, Nebraska, Linda Richter, and Laura Sanders both of Holdrege; six grandchildren: Kevin Sanders; Chris Sanders and his wife, Janeen; Robyn Sanders; Jeni Samuelson and her husband, Adam; Adam Richter and Ethan Richter; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marilyn Nyberg of Yankton, South Dakota; brother-in-law, William Sanders of Grand Island, Nebraska, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Norma's honor and kindly suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Holdrege or Holdrege Memorial Homes.
