Norman Reed Burden

Graveside Services for Norman Reed Burden will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Nebraska with Pastor Brian Jenkins officiating.

Norman Reed Burden, 80 years of age, of Hillman, Michigan, died Monday, January 14, 2019, at his home. Reed was born June 15, 1938 in Oxford, one of two sons born to Kenneth A. and Sylvia L. (Norman) Burden.  He received his education from Oxford Public Schools and graduated from Oxford High School in 1956.

Following is education; he was inducted into the United States Navy.  Reed served his country for over 20 years and retired.  Following his retirement from the Navy, Reed worked for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Recreation Division.  He spent most of his career in Atlanta, Michigan, as a park ranger.

Reed was passionate and a member of Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association; he loved NASCAR and enjoyed time at the local race tracks.  Many friendships were made at the local service station and V.F.W. in Michigan, where stories were told over a cup of coffee with other veterans and his buddies.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and crossword puzzles in the newspaper.

Reed was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Arlen.

Survivors include; a niece:  Erin Jean Burden of Mountain Home, Idaho; a nephew:  Kelly Reed Burden and his special friend, Sasha Watsjold of Alaska; great-nephew, Thorin Reed Watsjold of Alaska; his cousin, Jerry Quinn and his wife, Kay of Oxford; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Reed's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
