Funeral Services for Olive A. Wallander will be conducted from the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, Nebraska on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Gary Panko, officiating. Interment will be in the Immanuel Cemetery north of Bertrand.
Olive Amelia Wallander, 93 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the Bertrand Nursing Home. Olive was born September 23, 1914 on the family farm northeast of Bertrand in Phelps County, Nebraska, the fourth of six children of Carl and Esther (Isaacson) Johnson. She was baptized on October 20, 1914 and later confirmed on May 26, 1929 by Pastor N.E. Kron. She received her education from Bertrand, graduating from Bertrand High School with the class of 1932. Following her education, Olive provided housekeeping and cooking for several area families.
On December 21, 1941 she was united in marriage to Arnold T. Wallander. The couple made their home in Bertrand, where Arnold and Olive did custom farming, raised livestock and hauled grain. On November 3, 1986 she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold.
Olive was a lifetime member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Bertrand, where she was active with the LCW Woman's organization serving as a past officer and taught Sunday school for forty years. She was also past member of the MNO Extension Club for over fifty years, active with the Bertrand Senior Center, enjoyed quilting, tatting, gardening, loved to travel and the couple enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, AZ for seventeen years.
She leaves to mourn her passing her sister, June George of Omaha; sister-in-law, Beverly Allen of Fresno, CA; brother-in-law, Wally Quest of Omaha; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Irwin and John; two sisters: Izola Johnson in infancy and Fern Quest; sister-in-law, Ruth Johnson and brother-in-law, Robert George.
Olive will lie in state at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand on Thursday, November 15, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
