Opal Marie (Hoover) Palmer, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on March 31, 2021, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Opal was born on May 25, 1937, the youngest of two children, born to William Theadore and Alma Albertha (Magers) Hoover. Opal received her primary education from Furnas County District School and then attended and graduated from Wilsonville High School, with the class of 1955.
On June 5, 1955, Opal was united in marriage to Larry Ree Palmer and to this union four children were born: William Grady, Rodrick Ree, Lynna Marie and Dannette Kaye. The Family resided in Wilsonville. Opal stayed busy tending to the home and a large garden.
After Lynna graduated from high school in May of 1981 Opal and Larry moved to Holdrege with their daughters. Opal then started working at Christian Homes as a housekeeper. After a few years in Holdrege, Opal and Larry moved to Cozad and owned and operated the New and Used Furniture Auction Company, and had ownership in several motels in central Nebraska as well. In 1999 Opal and Larry decided to move back to Holdrege. It was after their move back to Holdrege that Opal and her best friend from high school, who had also moved to the area, rekindled their friendship like no time had passed at all.
Opal attended the Community Church in Wilcox. Later in life Opal developed a love for quilting.
Besides her parents, and husband Larry, she was preceded in death by one son, Rodrick Ree Palmer; and brother, Gerald Hoover.
Opal leaves to mourn her passing; three children: Grady Palmer of Wilsonville; Lynna Palmer of Holdrege; and Dannette Doolittle and her husband, Dexter of Katy, Texas; five grandchildren: Kyle, Kacie and Brandi Palmer and Carter and Avery Doolittle; five great-grandchildren: Keyton; Kiya; Ruger; Vera; and Oliver; sister-in-law, Mary Hoover of Denton, Nebraska and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Opal's honor and kindly suggested to the Phelps County Senior Center.
