Opal Doris Tillotson, 98 years of age, of Temple, Texas (formerly of Holdrege, Nebraska), passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Westin Inn Health Center in Temple. She was born on January 20, 1912 in Eustis, Nebraska, the youngest of five daughters to Grant and Helen (Anderson) Hardesty.
On March 31, 1930 she was united in marriage to Virdie H. Tillotson in Woodbine, Iowa and adopted two sons: Gary and Fredric. The couple made their home in Holdrege, where they owned and operated the Bruce & Magill Texaco Station. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virdie on October 20, 1971.
Following Virdie's death, Opal worked in the cafeteria at Holdrege High School and Methodist Memorial Homes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Degree of Honor in Holdrege. Opal enjoyed bingo, cards, bowling, reading crossword puzzles and crocheting. Following the death of her son, Gary and her 95th birthday, she moved to Temple, Texas in 2007 to live near her son, Fred.
Besides her husband, Virdie and her son, Gary, she was preceded in death by her parents; and five sisters.
She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Fredric Tillotson and his wife, Vivian of Temple; four grandsons: Michael Tillotson and wife, Char of Loveland, Colorado, Mark Tillotson and wife, Jackie of Wichita, Kansas, Michael Koenig and wife, Jamie and Ryan Koenig and wife, Cherrie all of Loveland, Colorado; five great-grandchildren: Annette Tillotson and Tyler Dodge of Wichita, Kansas, Corrina Koenig, Adam Sewell and Jordan Sewell all of Loveland; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring her wish for cremation.
A private family graveside service at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
