A Memorial Service for Peggy M. (Barth) Brauer will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, Nebraska, with Pastor Gale Dorn officiating. A private inurnment will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, south of Maxwell, Nebraska.

Peggy Mae (Barth) Brauer, 77 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, and went to her eternal home following a seven-year battle with cancer. Peggy was born on June 24, 1948, in Gordon, Nebraska, the eldest of four children, to Lyle and Iola (Wood) Barth. She received her education from Rushville Public School, Rushville, Nebraska, graduating with the Class of 1966.  Peggy was baptized August 22, 1948, and later confirmed on April 15, 1962, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rushville.  She pursued higher education from Adorn Beauty School in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and became a Licensed Cosmetologist. She began working at shops in Rushville, and later, Kimball, Nebraska.

On June 30, 1968, Peggy was united in marriage to Randal "R.D." Brauer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rushville and the couple made their home in Lincoln, Nebraska, until Randal enlisted in the Army. Following his tour-of-duty, they made their home in Colorado Springs, Colorado and after his honorable discharge, they made their home on the farm near Hay Springs, Nebraska.  This union was blessed with three children: Kristine, Kimberly, and William. The family moved to make their home in Alma in 1977, and Peggy babysat children until 1982, when she opened, owned and operated her beauty salon, Peg's Kut-n-Kurl, until her semi-retirement in 2010.

Peggy always kept up on all the activities of her grandkids attending in person when possible or watching online with a follow up text of "great job".  She enjoyed gardening and canning "the fruits of that labor".  She enjoyed cheering on Husker Volleyball and as a gifted quilter she was proud to sew quilt tops for Veterans and for World Relief.  She loved God, was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Prairie Quilt Guild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Patricia Kay, parents-in-law, Ada and Bill Brauer; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Scherbarth and Ron Rindy.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Randal "R.D." Brauer of Alma; three children:  Kristi McGuire and husband, Brian of Torrington, Wyoming; Kim Wohlers and husband, Rich of Osceola, Missouri; and Bill Brauer and wife, Bekki of Staplehurst, Nebraska; nine grandchildren:  Melissa Shepherd and husband, Mark of Loma, Colorado; Daly McGuire of Laramie, Wyoming; Kyra McGuire and fiancé, Alex Howe of Cheyenne, Wyoming; MacKenzie, Skylar, Shaylee, and Makaylee Wohlers, all of Osceola, Missouri; Dharma and Sierra Brauer of Staplehurst; three great-grandchildren: Mya, Hailey, and Casen; sister, Nancy Scherbarth of Alliance, Nebraska; brother, Melvin Barth and wife, Kathleen of Hay Springs, Nebraska; five sisters-in-laws:  Sharon Ayers and husband, Denny of Fort Morgan, Colorado; Karen Tuttle and husband, Irvin of Corvallis, Montana; June Rindy of Olympia, Washington; Sandra Trujillo and husband, Jerry of Mesa, Arizona; and Brenda Voss and friend, Greg Dudney of Kimball, Nebraska; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The family would like to thank Brookestone Hospice for their kindness and dedicated care of Peg in this stage of life.

There will not be a visitation, viewing, or memorial book signing the evening prior to the service.  The family has chosen cremation.
