Funeral services for Quinten E. Peterson will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Paul Snider officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Quinten Edgar Peterson, 92 years of age, of rural Holdrege, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2012 at his home in near Holdrege. He was born on July 28, 1919 on the family farm northwest of Holdrege, the youngest of eight children born to Edgar F. and Anna H. (Hendricks) Peterson. Quinten received his primary education from Phelps County School District #72. While a freshman at Holdrege High School, Quinten's father had a heart attack which caused Quinten to forego school to help out with the farming.
On March 11, 1943, Quinten was united in marriage to Leona Enquist and to this union two children were born: Daniel and Alice Ann. The couple made their home on the farm east of Holdrege. Quinten enjoyed all aspects of the farm life. Leona passed away in 1979.
On September 14, 1980, Quinten was united in marriage to Wilma June Heidenreich.
Quinten was a life-long farmer and rancher. He had a love for animals and enjoyed training dogs and breaking horses.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday school and served for many years in different church offices, he also served on several CO-OP Boards, on the Phelps County Board of Supervisors and was involved in Phelps County Livestock Feeders. He was very involved with the ministry at Christian Homes in Holdrege, where he and his wife, Wilma led Sunday morning services for 13 years. Wilma preceded him in death in 2003.
Besides his two wives, Quinten was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Rose Delberg, Marcella Peterson, and Valerie Madsen; four brothers: Albert, Henry, Donald and Byron Peterson and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He leaves to mourn his passing his two children: Daniel V. Peterson and his wife, Hulda of Holdrege, Alice Ann Swanson and her husband, Bruce of Holdrege; nine grandchildren: Drew Peterson and his wife, Irena of Philadelphia, Leah Kuehn and her husband, Kevin of Heartwell, Nebraska, Lans Peterson and his wife, Pamela of Holdrege, Amy Johnson and her husband, Kelly of Grand Island, Nebraska, Darrin Swanson and his wife, Lori of Holdrege, Maria Andersen and her husband, Garth of Gothenburg, Nebraska, James Jensen and his wife, Terri of Aurora, Nebraska, Bradley Jensen and his wife, Erin of Holdrege, Alisha Jensen of Holdrege; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Lorraine Enquist of Holdrege and Gracia Harms of Waverly, Iowa and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
