He received his education from Geneva Public Schools, graduating from Geneva High School with the class of 1974. Randy then pursued higher education at Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska, where he received his Bachelors degree in Broadcasting. Following his education, Randy began his radio broadcasting career at KRFS in Superior, Nebraska, until moving to Holdrege in 1981.

The couple made their home in Holdrege, where Randy was the program director for KUVR 1380 AM and 96.9 FM radio station. For over 30 years, Randy graced the Holdrege area with his morning talk show providing South Central Nebraska with local news and weather, community updates, celebrated birthdays and his favorite subject, his beloved sporting events. He combined his passion for radio broadcasting and sports, during his 38 years announcing Duster Athletics, and will always be remembered as "The Voice of the Dusters." During the 2017 Swedish Days, Randy was humbled by being inducted into the Phelps County Sports Wall of Honor at the Nebraska Prairie Museum. In the Spring of 2018, Randy was also presented a Distinguished Service Award from Holdrege High School for his outstanding service as a broadcaster for Holdrege High School Activities.
