Celebration of Life Service for Randall G. "Randy" Vinzant will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020, at 2:30 p.m. at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at Elwood, Nebraska with Pastor Michael Wolff officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Randall Gaillan "Randy" Vinzant, 70 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska, (formerly of Bertrand and Elwood, Nebraska) passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln, Nebraska, surrounded by his loving family. Randy was born June 29, 1949, in Holdrege, Nebraska, the second of three children to Gaillan Paul and Grace Elaine (Griffith) Vinzant. He received his education from Bertrand Community School, graduating from Bertrand High School with the class of 1967. Randy then pursued higher education at Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska where he graduated in 1972, receiving his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education. While at Kearney State, Randy was active with the Beta Sigma Phi Fraternity, where lifelong friendships were formed with his fraternity brothers.
Following his education, Randy began his teaching career in Physical Education in the Amherst Public School System for a brief period of time. He then went into the insurance business, and worked at IBS of Nebraska. Randy then founded his own electrical and plumbing business, Vinzant Electric. After operating his electrical business for several years, Randy began a long career in machinery sales for Bellamy Implement in Elwood. He later transferred to Fairbanks International in Holdrege, before returning to Bellamy's for 14 years prior to his retirement.
On January 21, 1995, he was united in marriage to Victoria Sue "Vicki" Smith at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood. The couple resided in Elwood for 20 years, before moving to Lincoln in 2015.
Randy was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod; attending St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bertrand; Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood; and most recently, Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved playing golf. Randy was proud to be part of a visionary group who were influential in starting the Hi-Line Golf Course in Bertrand. Above all, Randy was a family man, who loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jim and Ruth Smith; brother-in-law, Lester Olmstead; and niece, Yvonne Bennett.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Vicki Vinzant of Lincoln; his three sons: Brett Vinzant; and Jeff Vinzant and his wife, Melissa all of Bertrand; and Josh Vinzant and his wife, Lori of Holdrege, Nebraska; three step-children: Jonathan Lucas and his wife, Gabrielle of Chandler, Arizona; Andrea Southwell and her husband, Tim of Kearney, Nebraska; and Alyssa Burr and her husband, Dan of Shelton, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Bailey, Lillian, Kellan, and Kennon Vinzant; six step-grandchildren: Tristan and Teagan Southwell; Emily and Addison Burr; and Francisco and Poleth Lucas; sister, LaDonna Bennett and her husband, James of Bertrand; brother, Paul Vinzant and his wife, Karen of Meeker, Colorado; sister-in-law, Roberta Olmstead of Loveland, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation or memorial book signing, as the family is honoring Randy's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Randy's honor, and kindly suggested to the Shriners Hospital for Children or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
