Celebration of Life Services for Randy K. Grassmeyer will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating.  A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Randy Kent Grassmeyer, 67 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the CHI Health - Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska surrounded by his loving family.  Randy was born December 12, 1951, in Grant, Nebraska, the eldest of four children born to Darrell and Lavonne (Nelson) Grassmeyer.  He was baptized on March 2, 1952, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Axtell, Nebraska and later confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, Nebraska.  Randy received his education from Columbus Public Schools, graduating from Columbus High School with the class of 1970.  During high school, he studied abroad at the University of Durham in England.  On February 17, 1971, he was inducted into the United States Air Force, serving his country until his honorable discharge.  Randy went on to study at Platte College and later received his Chartered Life Underwriter designation from The American College.

On December 4, 1971, he was united in marriage to Deborah Ann Davenport at Columbus, and to this union the couple were blessed with two children:  Kara Nel and Tyler Gene.  The family made their home in Columbus, where Randy was employed as a salesman for Cornhusker Office Supply.  In August of 1978, the family moved to Holdrege, where Randy began a long career as a State Farm Insurance Agent, loyally serving Holdrege and the surrounding area.  This past September marked his 40 th year with State Farm.  Throughout the years, many friendship bonds were formed with his clients, and within his State Farm family of colleagues as well.

He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege.  Randy was enthusiastic in serving his community.  He was an active member of the Holdrege Country Club since 1984, where he served as past President; he also served as past President for the Holdrege Rotary Club, where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.  In addition, Randy was a former member of the Jaycees, and active with the Holdrege Chamber of Commerce in his younger years.  He treasured his friendships forged at the bowling alley and on the golf course.  He enjoyed traveling with his State Farm golfing buddies, and a highlight of his love of golf was attending the Master's Tournament.  He and Debby also enjoyed being part of their couples Bridge Club for over 30 years.  Randy was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and dedicated to attending games with his family.

Family was the most important thing to Randy, and he cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren.  He and Debby loved traveling with their family, making many treasured memories.  Randy never knew a stranger and he will be remembered for his joyful laugh, his generosity, and his kindness and care for others before himself.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Darrell in 2017; his father-in-law and mother-in-law:  William and Betty Davenport; sisters-in-law:  Phyllis Rosenquist and her husband, Darrell, and Mae Davenport; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Young.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his loving wife of 47 years, Debby Grassmeyer of Holdrege; his two children: Kara Borg and her husband, Randy of Wassenaar, The Netherlands; and Tyler Grassmeyer and his wife, Kathryn of Alexandria, Virginia; six grandchildren:  Cohen, W. Grant, and Reid Borg; and Charlotte, Jack, and Finn Grassmeyer; his mother, Lavonne Grassmeyer of Columbus; one brother, Bryan Grassmeyer and his wife, Lynn of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; two sisters: Kay Sprunk and her husband, Tim of Platte Center, Nebraska; and Linae Anderson and her husband, Tim of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Billie Ammerman-Young of Bellevue, Nebraska; and Mary Seligmann and her husband, Harold of Cave Creek, Arizona; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Book Signing will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Randy's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
