Richard Leroy "Rich' Aldrich, 82 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at his home in Holdrege, following a courageous battle with cancer. Rich was born October 26, 1934 at Ord, Nebraska, the eldest of three children born to LaVern and Helen (Travis) Aldrich. He received his primary education from a rural school south of Ord, and then attended Ord Public Schools, graduating from Ord High School with the class of 1952. Out of high school, Rich was employed by Lincoln Steel in Lincoln, Nebraska. He later moved to Holdrege to run the Apco service station on 4th Ave. He was employed by Becton-Dickinson until deciding to make his passion of carpentry his lifetime career. Due to his humble disposition, Rich wouldn't want the title, but he was truly a master carpenter. Whether he was building a china cabinet, roll-top desk, or the finish work in a home; each project ended up as a work of art. In his later years, he was very proud to work side-by-side with his son, Randy in Aldrich Construction.
On September 4,1952, he was united in marriage to B. Jane Sternberg and to this union five children were born: Randy, Kate, Robert, Joni and Ann. The couple raised their family in Holdrege. Jane passed away on August 5, 1976. During the next twenty years, Rich focused his efforts on his family and career. On January 30, 1996, he was united in marriage to Wanda Irene Hastings, and the couple continued to reside in Holdrege. During his retirement years, Rich enjoyed camping, attending NASCAR races, and tending to his yard, garden and rose bushes.
Rich was affiliated with the All Saints Catholic Church and was a member of the Eagles for several years.
