A Memorial Service for Richard Canner will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Murray Jones officiating.
Richard Martin Canner, 72 years of age, of Grand Island, Nebraska, formerly of Omaha, Nebraska, and Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at his home in Grand Island. Richard was born on September 7, 1952, in San Diego, California, the youngest of three children, born to Richard E. and Ruth I. (Preston) Canner. He attended high school in San Diego, California, and then Richard pursued higher education from the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs.
On March 30, 1970, Richard enlisted into the United States Army at Portland, Oregon. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Sharpshooter Medal.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Lynn Wilder and they blessed with two daughters: Holly and Wendelin. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Richard worked for Becton-Dickinson. Richard worked in Holdrege until he moved to Omaha, Nebraska. The couple would later divorce.
Richard enjoyed reading and watching movies and also loved to golfing and go fishing on occasion. He also enjoyed music, playing the piano, leather working, and putting together puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rodney Canner; brother-in-law, Chuck Crossman; nephew, Preston Charles Crossman; half-sibling, Jim Bolte; and step-father, Anson "Bud" Bolte.
Richard leaves to celebrate his life; his children: Holly Almazan and her husband, Celso of Holdrege; and Wendelin Canner of Holdrege; three grandchildren: Jose Almazan and his wife, Janine of Kearney, Nebraska; Eric Almazan and his wife, Paige of Holdrege; and Daneca Almazan of Lincoln, Nebraska; one great-grandson: Claude Almazan; sister, Sandy Crossman of Washington; step-mother, Myra Macnofsky of San Diego, California; sister-in-law, Yvonne Canner of Colorado; half-siblings: Steve Ilott; Kathy Potter; Suzanne Pitts; Marti Dillon; and Roschelle Terpak; and extended family members and friends.
There will not be a visitation, viewing, or memorial book signing the evening prior to the service. Cremation was chosen.
Memorials in Richard's honor are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
