Funeral Services for Richard H. "Dick" Mulliner will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dale Lambert, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Richard Hall Mulliner, 99 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Richard was born September 13, 1910 at Lincoln, Nebraska, the oldest of three children born to Harry and Lily (Hall) Mulliner.
He received his education from Lincoln High School and then pursued higher education from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he was a member of the Phi-Kappa-Psi Fraternity.
On June 23, 1935 he was united in marriage to Louise B. Perry and to this union one daughter, Jane was born. They made their home in Lincoln, where Dick was employed by Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. In 1943, he was drafted into the United States Army to serve his country during World War II. During his service, his division was struck by German combat forces resulting in injuries to him and fellow soldiers. Dick was awarded the Purple Heart Medal after sustaining an injury to his foot. He was honorably discharged on July 3, 1945. After WWII, they purchased a farm north of Bertrand, Nebraska. In 1954, Dick returned to Pittsburgh Plate Glass and they made their home in Harlingen, Texas. In 1960 they moved to Holdrege, where they established the General Glass Company. On January 25, 1994 he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise.
Mr. Mulliner was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, The Holdrege Chamber of Commerce, where he served as the director for four years, the Holdrege Lions Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans.
Besides his wife and parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Mulliner.
He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Jane Lewis of Holdrege; two grandchildren: Richard Lewis and his wife, Joan of McKinney, Texas and Cindy Marshall-Giron and her husband Ben Giron of Henderson, Nevada; four great-grandchildren: Austin Lewis and will Lewis; of McKinney, Texas and Casey Marshall and Capri Marshall of Henderson, Nevada; one sister, Helen Jane Jorgensen of San Jose California, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held prior to the services at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
