Following his education, Richard worked with his family at Foster Construction as a heavy equipment operator.  He enjoyed moving dirt with his father and brothers and riding his motorcycles.   He felt a tremendous sense of pride from the work he was able to do with his family.

On March 9th, 1974, Richard was united in marriage to Debra Jane Lehmer and to this union one child was born: Zachary George Foster.  The couple made their home in Stamford and later moved to Oxford, Nebraska.   The marriage later ended in divorce.

On June 7th, 1981 Richard was united in marriage to Cherie Lyda Fryda and to this union one child was born: Lacie Mariah Foster. The couple made their home in Oxford.  The marriage later ended in divorce.

Richard enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son. A hunting accident in 1992 ended his abilities for this pastime as well as his love for moving dirt. Due to polio, he did not always have an easy life, but Richard loved his week-long treks and day trips on his motorcycle. He will be remembered for his stories of his motorcycle adventures, his love of good music, and his love for Nebraska football. He cherished his time with his parents.
