Richard Benjamin Gibbins, 86 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Richard was born on December 7, 1934, on a farm in Cheyenne County, Nebraska, near Gurley, Nebraska, the eldest of three children, born to Harold Christian and Thurma Grace (Nelck) Gibbins. He received his education from Gurley Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1952.
On December 17, 1954, he was united in marriage to Joyce Elaine Ladine in Sidney, Nebraska, and this union was blessed with three children: Vickie, Valerie, and Scott. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Richard worked as a technician for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. He was transferred to Grand Island, Nebraska, where he finished his 35 year service and retired in 1985. Richard and Joyce then retired in Alma. Richard was a jack-of-all trades and his hard working demeanor led him to begin a mowing business.
Richard was a member of the Methodist faith and attended Methodist Churches throughout his life. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved to fish and hunt. Most of all, Richard loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Roscoe Frink; brother-in-law, Ross Thompson; and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ladine; and Gina Ladine.
He leaves to celebrate his life; wife of 67 years, Joyce Gibbins of Alma; two daughters: Vickie Frink of Elm Creek, Nebraska; and Valerie Broeker and her husband, Alan of Milford, Nebraska; his son, Scott Gibbins of Alma; five grandchildren: Shelley Shively and her husband, Rich of Overton, Nebraska; Allan Frink of Elm Creek; Cory Broeker and his wife, Lacey of Milford; Adam Broeker and his wife, Lisa of Kansas City, Missouri; and Devon Broeker of Wood Heights, Missouri; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Thompson of Sidney; brother, Roland Gibbins and his wife, Roz of Minden, Nebraska; three brothers-in-law: Dick Ladine, of Gurley; Duane Ladine of California; and Lyal Ladine of New Jersey; along with other relatives, and many friends.
There will be no memorial book signing or visitation. The family is honoring Richard's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Richard's honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
