Celebration of Life Services for Richard N. Jensen will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holdrege Memorial Homes Chapel in Holdrege, Nebraska with Chaplain Daren Popple officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Lewiston, New York.
Richard Neal Jensen, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, (formerly of Loomis, Nebraska) passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Richard was born April 13, 1935 at Chicago, Illinois, the third of four children born to Neil Peter and Gladys Adolphne (Hunse) Jensen. Dick received his education from Foreman High School in Chicago and in 1950 the family moved to a farm 9 ½ miles west of Arnold, Nebraska. He attended Gandy High School until being inducted into the United States Army. Following his basic training, Dick was stationed at Fort Niagara, New York, where he served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1956. During his service he met the love of his life, Jeannine May Hager and the couple was united in marriage on March 3, 1956 at Lewiston and to this union three children were born: Guy, Charlene, and Keith.
The family made their home in the Nebraska Sandhills for a period of time before settling to Loomis in 1973. Dick was employed as a ditch rider for Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District for twenty-one years until his retirement in 1997.
He was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church. Dick enjoyed fishing, tending to his yard, watching wrestling on TV and spending time with his family.
Besides his parents; Dick was preceded in death by a sister, Margarette at 18 months old; brother, Harry Jensen; and half-brother, Harold Jensen.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeannine Jensen of Holdrege; three children: Guy Jensen of Holbrook, Nebraska, Charlene Jensen of Holdrege and Keith Jensen and his wife, Tricsh of Emmett, Idaho; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Jensen and his wife, Carol of Fruita, Colorado; sister-in-law, Jewel Jensen of Imperial, Nebraska and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Dick's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Dick's honor and will be designated at a later date.
