Funeral Services for Robert M. Cady will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Buck Linton-Hendrick, officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, Nebraska with military honors provided by the George R. Mitchell V.F.W. Post #1365 and the Martin Horn American Legion Post #219 of Oxford.

Robert Merlin Cady, 83 years of age, of Grand Island, Nebraska (formerly of McCook, Nebraska) passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Grand Island Veterans Home. Robert was born September 5, 1924 at Cambridge, Nebraska, the eighth of ten children of Frank and Ida (Rhinehammer) Cady. He received his education in rural Furnas County, south of Cambridge. Following his education, Bob engaged in farming with his father on the family farm south of Cambridge.

On April 8, 1946 he was inducted into the United States Army serving his country until his honorable discharge on May 4, 1947. Following his military service, Bob made his home in Wichita, Kansas to be near his mother, Ida. He was employed by Montgomery Ward as a delivery truck driver until his relocation to Denver, Colorado. After several years in Colorado, Bob returned home to Nebraska and worked as a farmhand for area farmers following the harvest crew. In December of 2003, he made his home at the Grand Island Veterans Home due to his failing health. He was an avid Nebraska football fan.

He leaves to mourn his passing his two sisters: Delma Cady of Guthrie, Oklahoma and Betty Decker of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and five sisters.

Bob will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
