Funeral Services for Robert N. "Bob" Dodds will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Huntley, Nebraska with Reverend Jean Clayton officiating. Interment will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the Washington City Cemetery at Washington, Kansas with local Military Honors in conjunction with the United States Army Military Honors Team.
Robert Neil Dodds, 84 years of age, of rural Huntley, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Bob was born June 9, 1930 at Barnes, Kansas the second of six children born to Wayne and Clara (Bickel) Dodds. He received his education through the 8 th grade from Washington Public School in Washington, Kansas.
Following his education, Bob was employed by Rhyhart Brothers Construction at Russell and Haddam, Kansas and later employed by a farmer at Western, Kansas. In 1949, he was employed by Biba Construction of Geneva, Nebraska.
He was inducted in to the United States Army in 1951, serving during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1953.
On August 27, 1955, Robert was united in marriage to Betty Anton at Goodland, Kansas and to this union two children were born: Robert Wayne and Brenda. The family first made their home in Geneva, and then in 1967, they moved to Harlan County, Nebraska where Robert worked construction for farmers.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Huntley, the Huntley Lions Club and a lifetime member of the Geneva VFW Samuel Post 7102.
Besides his parents; Bob was preceded in death by: step-son Paul Dodds; one sister, Mary Lou Woolard; and one brother, John Dodds.
Robert leaves to mourn his passing; his loving wife, Betty Dodds of rural Huntley; son, Robert Wayne Dodds and his wife, Sherri of rural Huntley; daughter, Brenda Cheng and her husband, Reeves of Rosemead, California; one granddaughter, Tryn Cheng of Rosemead; two brothers: Elmer Dodds of Stanley, New York, Don Dodds of Rochester, Minnesota; sister, Norma Doran and her husband, Ron of Loveland, Colorado; brother-in-law, Bill Woolard of Boulder, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma, Nebraska.
A memorial has been established in Robert's honor and will be designated at a later date.
