Robert "Bob" Ekberg

A graveside service for Robert L. "Bob" Ekberg will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Daren Popple officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the United States Army Funeral Honors Team.

Robert Lee "Bob" Ekberg, 92 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, on October 6, 2022, at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Bob was born on the farm near Alma, Nebraska on November 30, 1929, the second of four children, born to Frank and Veda (Cady) Ekberg. He started school at Midway school near Alma through 1 ^st grade. Then the family moved to the family farm north of Orleans. He went to school at District 19 through grade school and then to Mascot, where he graduated in 1947.

After returning home from the Korean War, he met Alta May Epping. They were united in marriage on September 6, 1953. To this union, three children were born: Susan, Jim, and Jane. Bob began a lifetime career in construction. He started as a bricklayer for several years before Bob became a superintendent for WM. Anderson Company.

In Bob's free time, he enjoyed hunting, camping, and canoeing. He and Alta spent 9 winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. After retiring, he continued to do construction and enjoyed hunting with his son, grandsons, and great-grandson.

Besides his parents and wife in 2021, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Duane (Nadyne) Ekberg; sister, Jeanie (Edwin) Johnson; and sister-in-law, Gloria Ekberg.

Bob is survived by his son: Jim (Trudy) Ekberg of Funk, Nebraska; grandchildren; Bret (Andrea), and Tanner Ekberg; great-grandchildren: Karter, and Halli Ekberg; daughter, Susan (Dave) Cramer of Holdrege; grandchildren: Brian Cramer, and Hilary (Jeff) Schriner; great-grandchildren: Brandon, Natalie, and Gabbie Schriner; daughter, Jane (Kevin) Gaffney of Lincoln; grandchildren, Anthony (Meghan), Aaron (Ashlen), and Brittany Presnell; great-grandchildren: Kannen, Kyhlen, and Azrielle Presnell; brother, Don Ekberg, of Holdrege; his special friend, Shirley Tucker of Holdrege, as well as many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Bob's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
