Celebration of Life Luncheon for Robert L. "Bob" Holmes will be conducted at the Black Powder restaurant in Franklin, Nebraska on Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Texarkana, Texas.

Robert Lamuel "Bob" Holmes, 80 years of age, of Franklin, formerly of Texarkana, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Franklin. Bob was born on January 16, 1933 in Texarkana the second of four children born to Bryant L. and Rose (Gerbino) Holmes. He received his primary education and graduated from the Texarkana High School in Texarkana with the class of 1951. Bob pursued higher education at University of Texas at Austin, Texas.

Bob was inducted into the United States Navy, serving his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on August 30, 1959.

On August 21, 1956, Bob was united in marriage to Judith Ann Walker at Boston, Texas. To this union, two daughters were born: Sarahjayne and Stacey.

Bob worked as a Sales Engineer for General Electric for over 30 years.

He enjoyed fishing; snow skiing, mountain climbing, wood working, gardening and spending time with his family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judith in 1991; a brother-in-law, Basil Nelson; and a sister-in-law, Lynda Price.

He is survived by his two daughters: Sarahjayne Hanes and her husband, Raymond of rural Phillipsburg, Kansas and Stacey Kilber of Rapid City, South Dakota; six grandchildren: Jon and his wife, Kara, Heather and her husband, DJ, Andrew, Cassie, Vicki and Michael; three step-grandchildren: Lisa Capps, Leroy Hanes and Jared Hanes; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Marie Nelson of Arlington, Texas; brother, Cecil Holmes of Pensacola, Florida; brother-in-law, Dr. John F. Walker and his wife, Martha of Tyler, Texas; along with nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Memorial Book signing will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma, Nebraska.

A memorial has been established in Bob's honor and kindly suggested to any Alternative to Violence Program.
