Robert L. "Hoppy" Hopkins

Funeral Services for Robert L. Hopkins will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege with military honors provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the U.S. Army Military Honors Team.

Robert Leigh "Hoppy" Hopkins, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at his home.  He was born December 30, 1930, in Atlanta, Nebraska, the younger of two children born to Brad and Addie (Leigh) Hopkins.  He received his primary education in Atlanta and attended Holdrege Public Schools.

Robert was inducted into the United States Army on July 10, 1951 and served in Alaska during the Korean Conflict, until he was honorably discharged on June 16, 1953.

On February 12, 1954, he was united in marriage to Jeannine E. Schwarz, and the couple made their home in Holdrege where they raised their two boys: Steve and Brad. Here in Holdrege, Robert had a long career with Becton Dickenson.

Robert loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing that led to countless adventures and times of enjoyment with his sons and grandchildren. He served as a guide for pheasant hunters for many seasons.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Leida Ruth Hopkins.

Robert leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Jeannine Hopkins of Holdrege; his two sons: Steve Hopkins and his wife, Elaine of Holdrege and Brad Hopkins and his wife, Melissa of Kearney, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Robert Hopkins and his wife Cathy, Matt Hopkins, Anna Hopkins, James Hopkins, and Brandon Hopkins; several great-grandchildren; along with special nieces:  Debra Johnson, Nancy LeBeau and Kathy Bishop; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m.to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Robert's honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
