Funeral Services for Robert J. Lind will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Holcomb Evangelical Free Church, rural Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Paul Pletcher officiating. Interment will be held following the services in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.


Robert John "Bob" Lind, 91 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018, at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Bob was born September 11, 1926, in Phelps County, near Elm Creek, Nebraska, the second of four children born to Clifford F. and Hilma Marie (Johnson) Lind. As a young boy, Bob enjoyed helping his dad on the family farm. He was baptized and confirmed in 1941 at Holcomb. Bob received his primary education from Rosehill District #68 in Phelps County, and then attended Holdrege High School. After he finished his education, he worked for area farmers, before he began farming with his brother. He also milked cows and worked as a lineman for the rural phone area.

On June 6, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lois Blincow at Oxford, Nebraska, and to this union, they were blessed with three children: Dale, Sharon and Renee. The family made their home on the family farm north of Holdrege, where Bob engaged in his lifelong passion of farming for almost 50 years, until his retirement in 1991. They enjoyed family trips and traveling together to Hawaii and the Holy Lands. On January 18, 1988, Bob was preceded in death by Lois.

On December 2, 1989, he was united in marriage to Gloria Sutherland. After retirement, they made their home in Holdrege, where they spent many wonderful years together. They enjoyed camping and wintering in Texas for many years. Gloria preceded him in death in July of 2002.

Bob was a member of Holcomb Evangelical Free Church, where he served in many capacities including: past chairman, usher, trustee, was a member of the district church planting board, and also served on the Midwest District Board. Throughout the years, he was a member of a rook club, and the Excel Camper Club. Bob enjoyed playing Scrabble, dominos, horseshoes, and card games. He also loved antiques, parades and horses, and especially loved his toy tractor collection. Bob's greatest passion was attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

Besides his parents and his wives, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers: Floyd Lind and his wives, Farris and Nadine, and Dean Lind; sister-in-law: Pearl Lind; two brothers-in-law: Lauren Blincow and his wives, Marie and Ruth, and Ingle Glendenning; and step-son, Jon Sutherland.

He leaves to celebrate his life his son: Dale Lind and his wife, Val of Loomis, Nebraska; two daughters: Sharon Hetrick and her husband, Jim and Renee Schulz and her husband, Dr. Steve, all of Holdrege; three step-children: Lynn Osborn, Randy Sutherland, and Brad Sutherland and their families; nine grandchildren: Adam Lind of Loomis, Diann Chaney, and her husband Lee of Alda, Nebraska, Dawn Hetrick and her significant other, Brent Dunse of Huntley, Nebraska, Kevin Hetrick and his wife, Kim of Norfolk, Nebraska, Jeremey Hetrick and his significant other, Abigail Linke of West Point, Nebraska, Aaron Schulz and his wife, MaryBeth of Germany, Lane Schulz of Holdrege, Jordan Schulz of Kearney, and Rebecca Schulz of Kearney; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Morris Lind and his wife, Karen of Kearney; sisters-in-law: Mae Lind of Holdrege, Dorothy Manley and her husband, Bill of Holdrege and Ila Jean Glendenning of Kearney; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Bob's honor and will be designated at a later date.
