Funeral Services for Robert Steven Tanner will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Thursday, January 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Neal McInturf, officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery.

Robert Steven Tanner, 65 years of age, of Oxford, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at his home in Oxford. Dobby (as he was affectionately known) was born on October 18, 1941 at the Oxford Hospital, the son of Robert and Virginia (Clark) Tanner. He grew up in Oxford and received his education from the Oxford Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1959.

Following his education, Dobby was employed by the State of Nebraska until his induction into the United States Army in 1964, serving his country in Viet Nam. Upon his return, he engaged in farming. He joined the Nebraska National Guard, serving honorably until retiring in 2001. Dobby loved his country and being able to contribute through his Guard involvement. He also loved his community, friends and family. He served his community in many ways including: 2 years in city law enforcement as well as serving on the Oxford City Council.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and he shared his love of the outdoors with his nephews as well as people he befriended. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Dobby leaves in mourning a loving family and friends. He is survived by one brother, Jim Tanner and his wife, Fenna of Denver, Colorado; one sister, Jean Beswick and her husband, Tom of Grand Island, Nebraska; one niece, Dr. Fenna Phibbs and her husband, Dan of Nashville, Tenn., three nephews: Chad Tanner and his wife, Kathleen of Aurora, CO., Brian Mustion and his wife, Angie of Grand Island, and Don Mustion and his wife, Kandy of Grand Island, ten great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Virginia Tanner.

He will lie in state at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established and will go to a military family fund.
