Robert "Bob" LaVerne Upthagrove, 81 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at his home in Holdrege. Robert was born in Bertrand, Nebraska on July 27, 1930, the second of ten children born to Russell R. and Myrtle I. (Moser) Upthagrove. He received his education in Bertrand and graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1947.

After graduating high school, Bob decided to move to the west coast with a friend. California offered him more opportunities, more experiences and better weather. He had several different jobs while he was in California. Almost, all of his jobs had to do with carpentry. He was a "jack of all trades." He built everything from houses to sailboats. He lived in Orange County, California for thirty-five years. He decided to come back to Nebraska in 1999 to retire.

Bob enjoyed being outdoors, especially when he was able to hunt and fish. When he had to be inside he took interest in solitaire, crossword puzzles, reading newspapers and cooking steaks and potatoes.

Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by four sisters: Reta Aldinger and her husband, Delmar, Lenora Smith Duffey, Gayle Merritt and her husband, John, and Ramona Upthagrove in infancy; three brothers: Ramon, Marvin and Marlin Upthagrove.

Bob is survived by one sister, Betty Brown and her husband, Leonard of Fall River, Kansas; one brother, Allan Upthagrove and his wife, Karen of Holdrege; two sisters-in-law: Donna Upthagrove of Bertrand, Annette Upthagrove of Columbus, Nebraska; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation as his family is honoring his wish for cremation.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
