A celebration of life service for Robert E. Wilbur will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. A private inurnment will be held at the Alma Cemetery at a later date.

Robert Eugene Wilbur "Root", 58 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, died on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Phelps Memorial Health Center, surrounded by his family. Robert was born on November 30, 1967, in Cambridge, Nebraska, the twelfth of thirteen children born to Lester Lee and Norma Jean (Linner) Wilbur. He received his education from Wilcox Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1987. While in high school, Robert worked for Hanson's elevator.

In 1988, Robert was united in marriage to Donna Serr, and to this union, one daughter was born, Brittney. They later divorced. He worked at Allmand Brothers from 1997 to 2024 and was a cook at Speakeasy from 1996 to 2011. Robert was currently employed by the City of Minden as a groundskeeper.

Robert was an avid sports fan who faithfully followed the Chicago Cubs, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tri-City Storm. He enjoyed fishing, playing Skat, and spending time with family and friends. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, and he treasured every opportunity to support them at their activities and events. Robert never hesitated to help others and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Rodney Wilbur; Tom Wilbur; sister, Bonnie White; two sisters-in-law, Deb Wilbur; and Karen Wilbur; and two nieces: Kindra Wilbur; and Bridgette Wilbur.

Robert leaves to celebrate his life, his daughter, Brittney Wilbur (Dylan Grachek); three grandchildren: Lillian, Judah, and Delilah; six brothers: Steve Wilbur (Jodi) of Lincoln; Gary Wilbur of Lubbock, Texas; Kenneth Wilbur (Debbie) of Harvard, Nebraska; Mark Wilbur (Peggie) of Wilcox, Nebraska; Michael Wilbur (Jill) of Wilcox; and Brad Wilbur (Trish) of Olathe, Kansas; three sisters: Sandra Whetstine (John) of Holdrege; Roxanne Penner (Dave) of Denver City, Texas; and Janis Hartwell (Dell) of Holdrege; sister-in-law, Leighann Wilbur of Topeka and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A memorial book signing will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege.
