Rod Mcconnell

Celebration of Life Open House for Rodney "Rod" McConnell will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska.  A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Charles Rodney McConnell, 59 years of age, Holdrege, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 1, 2019 southeast of Hildreth, in rural Franklin County, Nebraska.  Rod was born on February 27, 1960, in Sacramento, California, the third of six children to Charles LeRoy and Harriett Elnor (Kountz) McConnell.  Rod received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, and later in years was proud of the fact that he achieved his GED.

Rod made his home in Loveland, Colorado for a few years, and was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the mountains.  In 1994, Rod returned home to Holdrege, where he was employed by Industrial Pipeline and in recent years he worked at Nebraskaland Aviation, where he drove truck and tendered the sprayers.

Rod loved to hunt, fish, he always enjoyed spending time with his family, and not having any children of his own he especially loved to give his attention to his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.  Rod's trusty companion was his Corgi dog, Rusty.  They went everywhere together!  Spoiling Rusty was an everyday event, and an example of that would be Rod fixing a sandwich for himself he would take two bites, and Rusty would be treated to the rest of the sandwich!  His most favorite club that he belonged was the "Free Beer Club".

Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, Crystal Raburn.

Rod leaves to celebrate his life; his sister, Patricia Marshall of Maupin, Oregon; three brothers: Bill McConnell and his wife, Jo of Lincoln, Nebraska; Russ McConnell and his wife, Susan of Holdrege; and Ron McConnell and his wife, Becky of Alma, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces; great-nephews; one great-great niece; other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Rod's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
