Rodney Lee Vollertsen, 48, passed away at his home in Manhattan, Kansas, on Thursday, December 19, 2024. Rod was born on February 1, 1976, to Roger and Sheryl (Neujahr) Vollertsen in Nebraska City, Nebraska. In 1990, the family relocated to Holdrege, Nebraska, where Rod graduated from Holdrege High School in 1995. After his mother's passing in 2023, he moved to Manhattan, to be closer to his sister.
Rod was an avid sports enthusiast and gave 25 years of volunteer service to Holdrege High School Athletics. He was treated as part of the team, being included with team photos and receiving dozens of senior pictures. Upon his departure as a Team Manager, he was presented with a team football signed by the whole team and recognized by the City of Holdrege with a plaque. He enjoyed watching many professional teams, to include the Las Vegas Raiders, Miami Heat, Minnesota Twins, Las Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins, and the Detroit Lions.
Rod also enjoyed a wide variety of games. He had a knack for drawing just the right card when playing Canasta and other card games with family. He played a variety of video games, using his PlayStation for sports games and his tablet for more casual games. Upon arrival to Manhattan, he enjoyed tabletop gaming with local friends.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Sheryl Vollertsen; his uncle, Don Hauptman; his cousin, Inga Hauptman; his grandparents, and many other relatives.
Rod is survived by his sister, Catherine Vollertsen (and David Williams) of Manhattan, KS; his aunt, Nancy Hauptman of Juniata, NE; his cousins, Matt (and Tiffany) Hauptman of Danville, IA and Marshall (and Gina) Hauptman of St. Edwards, NE, and a host of friends.
