Funeral Services for Roger D. Abrahamson will be conducted from the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend David Sites and Darrel Wissmann, PMA, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege following the funeral service at the church.
Roger Dale Abrahamson, 80 years of age, of rural Funk, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at his home southeast of Funk. Roger was born February 2, 1929 on the family farm, southeast of Funk, in Phelps County, Nebraska, the youngest of three children born to Wilhelm and Ethel (Johnson) Abrahamson. He was baptized on March 31, 1929 by Reverend John A. Johns and confirmed on June 20, 1943 by Reverend Rudolph H. Anderson at the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk.

Roger received his primary education at rural school District #18 in Phelps County and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1946. Following his education, Roger engaged in farming with his father and brother. On November 21, 1953 he was united in marriage to Margery Youngquist by Reverend E.K. Nelson and to this union four daughters were born: Joyce, Janice, Harriet and Wendy. The family continued to make their home on the family farm southeast of Funk, where Roger was born and where his life also came full circle Thursday evening with his passing. His life was centered around farming and Roger loved the labor of the land his entire working career.

Roger was a member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk until 1953, when he transferred his membership to the Bethel Lutheran Church. He served in the Nebraska National Guards in Kearney, Nebraska for several years. As a youth he enjoyed playing Legion Baseball for Holdrege and he also enjoyed the sport of football. He loved to attend his grandchildren's activities, sporting events and programs. Throughout the years, Roger had many friendship bonds formed playing cards and having coffee at the Coffee Cup Café in Funk. He was an avid New York Yankees fan.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Margery of rural Funk; three daughters: Janice Abrahamson of Axtell, Nebraska, Harriet Reese and her husband, Tim, and Wendy Skallberg and her husband, John all of Holdrege; four grandchildren: Brent and Jared Reese and Jason and Jody Skallberg; sister-in-law, Laurene Abrahamson of Holdrege; brothers-in-law: Carroll Hansen of Holdrege and Rodney Youngquist and his wife, Donna of Lincoln, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joyce Ann in 1977; brother, Paul Abrahamson; sister, Violet Grove and her husband, Dale; and sister-in-law, Marlene Hansen.

Visitation will be on Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
