Roger "Buckshot" Dennis

A Funeral Service for "Buckshot" Roger D. Dennis will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Mark Crist officiating.  Following the service, interment will be held at the Alma Cemetery in Alma, Nebraska.

"Buckshot" Roger Dee Dennis, 74 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on December 13, 2021, at his home in Holdrege, surrounded by his family.  Roger was born on December 24, 1946, in an ambulance on the way to Smith Center, Kansas. He was the youngest of three children born to Glenn, Sr. and Celesteah "Ferne" (League) Dennis.  Roger grew up in Kansas, before moving to Gaston, Oregon at a young age. The family moved to the Republican City, Nebraska area, and Roger received his education in Naponee, Nebraska and then attended Republican City High School, graduating with the class of 1964.

Following his education, Roger was employed by Beale Tire Shop and Speedway transportation off and on for many years.

On June 11, 1967, he was united in marriage to Linda S. Dixon at the United Methodist Church in Alma. The couple were blessed with two children: Jennifer and Monty. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Roger owned and operated Buckshot Express, a Livestock Trucking Company and in later years Husker Trailer, a Truck and Trailer repair shop and BS Wash a livestock wash out in Elm Creek, Nebraska.

The family spent many years fishing, camping, boating and spending time outdoors. Roger enjoyed traveling and had a soft spot in his heart for animals; often rescuing many.  Roger was an avid Husker football fan, but most of all, he loved to attend his grandchildren's sporting events and activities.

Roger was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.

He was preceded in death by; his parents, Glenn and Ferne Dennis; and his sister, Marilyn "Beth" Stephens.

Roger leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 54 years, Linda Dennis of Holdrege; his daughter, Jennifer Dennis of Holdrege; his son, Monty Dennis and his wife, Jessica of Loomis, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Ashton Silver and her husband, Ben of Wilcox, Nebraska; Allison Baird and her husband, Jordan of Alma; Tristan Colgrove and his fiancé, Summer Smejkal of Omaha, Nebraska; Andrew Dennis of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Taylor Gracia of Auburn, Nebraska; one step-grandson, Ashton Wolsleben of Loomis; one great-granddaughter, Genevieve Rue Silver; brother,  Glenn Dennis, Jr. and his wife, Diane of Agra, Kansas; brother-in-law,  Neil Stephens of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Roger's honor, and kindly suggested to the family. They will donate trees to the Methodist Walking Trail in Alma in his memory.
