Memorial Services for Roger D. Erickson will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021, at 2:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Jan Gluth King officiating.
A private family inurnment will be held prior to the memorial service at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, with Military Honors provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the United States Navy Military Funeral Honors Team.
Due to health concerns, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; current CDC and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for Faith-Based Services and Gatherings will be followed. The Erickson family sincerely encourages each person to make their decision whether to attend Roger's services, based on the best interest of your health, and that of your community. Roger Dean Erickson, 84 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Holdrege passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at Bryan Medical Center West Campus. Roger was born on March 9, 1936, at Holdrege, Nebraska, the youngest of three children born to Ralph and Vera (Pfeifer) Erickson. Roger received his primary education from District 73 School and Roosevelt Elementary School and later attended and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1953. Roger then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for a few years. In his early teens, Roger excelled at playing Legion baseball and football.
In December of 1955, Roger joined the Navy and served in Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, and Hong Kong. He was an aviation electrician on the Bon Honne Richard.
After returning from the Navy, Roger began his life-long passion of farming alongside his dad, Ralph. Roger loved everything about the farm, even after he had moved to Lincoln, he would still always ask about the grain markets and crops.
Roger was an avid Husker fan; you name the sport and he was watching it.
Roger was preceded in death by; his parents; his Uncle Everett Erickson; two sisters-in-law: Bonita Erickson; and Susan Winkler-Erickson; and one brother-in-law Lester Burnham.
Roger is survived by: two siblings: Phyllis Burnham of Minden; and Richard Erickson of Holdrege; nieces and nephews: Wade Erickson and his wife, Audra of Peyton, Colorado; John Burnham of Hastings, Nebraska; Paula Beierman and her husband, Tim of Albion, Nebraska; great-niece and great-nephews: Ryan, Tyler, and Ashtyn Beierman, all of Albion; along with extended family, and many friends.
There will be no visitation or memorial book signing, the family is honoring Rogers wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Roger's honor and kindly suggested to the family for further designation.
