Graveside Services for Roger H. Myers will be conducted from the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Darrel Wissmann, PMA, officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery with military honors provided by the Bertrand Veterans Organization.
Roger Harold Myers, 73 years of age, of Grand Island, Nebraska (formerly of Hastings and Holdrege), passed away following a lingering illness on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Grand Island Veteran's Home. Roger was born September 12, 1933 on a farm in Gosper County, near Bertrand, eldest of four children of Floyd Harold and Mildred Vera (Roepke) Myers. He received his education at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1951. Following his education he served his country in the United States Army.
After his honorable discharge, he returned to Holdrege where he was employed by Becton-Dickinson for over twenty-five years and lived at home to help with the care of his parents. His big love was the extended family of his sister, Rochelle. Roger loved spending time with his two nieces and one nephew, four great-nieces and one great-nephew. He recently became a great-great uncle to his newly born great-great nephew.
Roger and his mother moved to Hastings in 1997 due to failing health, where he remained until last September when he moved to the Grand Island Veteran's Home. Roger will be missed by his family, caretakers and friends, especially, Cliff Swanson who came every Friday possible to see him and Roger looked forward to that afternoon from week to week. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W.
He leaves to mourn his passing his sister, Rochelle Rhoades and her family, Lisa and Ron Bush and their children: Taylor, Haley and Mallory and their grandson, Cooper Bush of Hastings; Dan and Deb Rhoades and their daughters: Kari and Megan of Marian, Iowa; and Shelley and Tony Catanach of West Chester, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant siblings and his brother-in-law, Ira Rhoades.
Mr. Myers will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Friday, April 27, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
