Roma Jean Mae Lofquist, 88 years of age, of rural Bertrand, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at the Bertrand Nursing Home. Roma Jean was born on January 28, 1931, on the home farm, west of the Westmark Evangelical Free Church, rural Loomis, the youngest of four children to Theodore and Mabel (Malm) Freburg. She received her education from the Pleasant Hill Rural School #22, through the 8 th Grade.
On August 27, 1950 she was united in marriage to Wayne R. Lofquist at the Westmark Evangelical Free Church and to this union three daughters were born: Wanda Kay, Donna Jean and Lorri Ann. The family made their home on the farm northeast of Bertrand, where Wayne engaged in farming and raised cattle. They were honored with the Ak-Sar-Ben Pioneer Farm Family Award in 2005.
Roma Jean was an expert seamstress, often sewing clothing for her daughters and their Barbies. She was proud to have sewn over 1,000 kimonos and layettes for the Westmark White Cross; and that she taught each granddaughter to sew. Roma Jean was a member of the Bertrand Women's Club, the MNO Club, Bible Study groups and the Pinochle Club. She was also an excellent baker and cook. Roma Jean and Wayne enjoyed square dancing and traveling to every state and many countries abroad. Later, their interests grew to Belgian Horse teams. Over the years, they attended many horse shows, parades, and competitions, where Roma Jean sewed her own elegant period correct show attire.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Wayne in 2016; two brothers: Forrest Freburg; and Norris Freburg; sister, Pauline Harms and husband, Eugene; daughter, Donna Linder in 1998; and brother-in-law, Clyde Lofquist and his wife, Elinor.
She leaves to celebrate her life: her two daughters: Wanda Davis and Fritz Beckenbach of Kearney, Nebraska; and Lorri Billeter of Bertrand; son-in-law, Greg Linder and his wife, Sharon of Loomis, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Adrienne Davis; Amy Morris and her husband, Ryan; Kevin Wayne Davis and his wife, Beth; Charlie Linder and his wife, Abby; Kendra Virgil and her husband, Tim; Tessa Bowen; Alex Bowen and his wife, Laura; and Hayley Bowen; nine great-grandchildren: Harrison, Jack, Leafie Mae Morris; Owen, Quentin, and Morgan Virgil; Kinzley and Adelynn Bowen; and Asa Davis; a sister-in-law, Doris Reisig of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; and a host of loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Westmark Evangelical Free Church at rural Loomis.
