Ronald Owen "Ron" Dannull, 64 years of age, of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.  Ronald was born March 2, 1951 at Sterling, Colorado, the third of four children born to Alfred George and Marcella Elizabeth (Carpenter) Dannull.  Ron was baptized, confirmed and raised in the Lutheran faith.  He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1969.

Following his education, Ron pursued a career in the United States Air Force receiving his basic training in April of 1971.  On September 21, 1974, Ron was united in marriage to Rita Rosella Leopold.  They made their home in Little Rock, Arkansas, where Ron was trained as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician.  While they were in Little Rock, they were blessed with a daughter, Kimberly Ann and a son, Matthew Owen.  In May of 1978, they were transferred to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, where their third child, Michael Wayne was born in Anchorage.  Throughout their marriage the family relocated to several Air Force Bases throughout the United States.  With Ron's love of the outdoors, Alaska and Maine were very attractive to who he was.  This marriage later ended in divorce.

Ron's service to his country was just shy of 20 years, prior to his honorable discharge on May 1, 1991.  He was decorated with the Air Force Longevity service award ribbon with three bronze oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Training Ribbon, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

After his service, Ron returned to civilian life and began to make his home in Kearney, Nebraska.  Later in years, when his health began to fail he began to make his home at the Bertrand Nursing Home.  He loved fishing and hunting, and enjoyed collecting guns and knives, many of which were handmade.  Ron was a very loving father, brother and son.

Ron was preceded his death by his parents, grandparents, sister-in-law, Barbara Dannull and the mother of his children, Rita.  He leaves to mourn his passing; his three children:  Dr. Kimberly Dannull and her husband, James Wedige of Aurora, Colorado, Matthew Dannull of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Michael Dannull of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren:  Natayah Rian, Taryn Avary, Teagan Loren, Adelyn Rose Wedige and Cailey Jai, Cole Matthew, and Carter Leo Dannull; one sister, Mary Dannull Bacon and her husband, Harold of Milford, Nebraska; two brothers:  Dean A.
