Ronald A. Russell

Funeral Services for Ronald A. Russell will be conducted from the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans, Nebraska on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Duane Russell, officiating. Interment will be in the Orleans Cemetery.

Ronald Arthur Russell, 75 years of age, of Hildreth, Nebraska (formerly of Orleans), passed away on Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma, Nebraska. Ronald was born March 19, 1933 on the family farm south of Orleans in Harlan County, Nebraska, the son of Arthur Judson and Laura Agnes (Hunter) Russell. He received his primary education at the Springbrook Rural School south of Orleans and then graduated from Long Island High School at Long Island, Kansas with the class of 1951. Following his education, Ron hauled rock for the construction of the Harlan County Dam and was also employed on the family farm south of Orleans.

Ron then served his country in the United States Army from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1957. He then returned home to Harlan County and was united in marriage to Lola Ruth Turner in 1958 and to this union one son, Keven was born. The family made their home in Pasco, Washington, where Ron worked for the Natural Gas Company. Ron and Keven returned to Nebraska in 1962, where he was employed at J & H Grain Company at Orleans. In 1967 he was united in marriage to Delores Carol Otto and to this union one daughter, Valire Jo was born.

Ron continued his work in the elevator business moving to Hildreth in 1970, where he was employed by the Hildreth Farmers CO-OP as the feed manager and later in years was the assistant manager until his retirement in 1995.

Ron was born to fish and enjoyed watching his daughter, Valire play basketball and volleyball through her high school years. He also loved to watch college football and Nebraska Women's Basketball and Volleyball.

He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Agnes Russell of Alma; one son, Keven Russell and his wife, Cara of Hildreth; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Art in 1996; daughter, Valire in 2003 and his grandparents.

Ron will lie in state at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans on Sunday, November 30, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
