Memorial Services for Ronald Schmidt will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.
Ronald "Ron" Gene Schmidt, 69 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Ron was born July 1, 1946 in Holdrege, the 5 th of 8 children born to Bernard and Ruth (Swanson) Schmidt. He received his primary education from Mascot Public Schools and then continued at Oxford Public Schools in Oxford, Nebraska.
In 1968, he was united in marriage to Mary Terry and to this union four children were born: Ronald Gene, Jr., Sheri, Robert and Susan. The family made their home in Holdrege where Ron worked as a farm hand in the area for 20 years. Ron was also the manager at Hasty Lanes for 12 years while he continued to help on the farm as well. In 1989, Ron became he manager for the Tower Motel in Holdrege. He continued to manage the motel until it was torn down.
Ron was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #3132 of Holdrege and of the Lutheran faith. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Gene, Jr. in infancy; brothers, Milan Schmidt, his twin, Don Schmidt and Raymond Schmidt; and brothers-in-law, Dennis "Punch" Freeland and Harvey Conley.
Ron leaves to celebrate his life; his children: Sheri Wyatt and her husband, Will of Holdrege, Robert "Bob" Schmidt of Wishek, North Dakota, and Susan Libich and her husband, Marshall of Gothenburg, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Cody Wyatt, Brandon Wyatt, Sean Jackson, Ty Wyatt, Trevor Wyatt and Rebecca Libich; three sisters: Verlene Freeland of Oxford, Carole Conley of Sanger, California and Kay Evans and her husband, Dennis of Elwood, Nebraska; brother: Leighton Schmidt and his wife, Janet of Beaver City, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family is honoring Ron's wish for cremation. Memorial Book Signing will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial will be established in Ron's memory, to help give children the opportunity to learn to bowl.
