Memorial Services for Ronald D. Stacey will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Homes Care Community Chapel at Holdrege, Nebraska with Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege prior to the services.
Ronald Dee "Ron" Stacey, 74 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Ronald was born November 10, 1940 in Los Angeles, California, the youngest of four children born to Lowell Arthur and Mary Elizabeth (Parsons) Stacey. They moved from California to Clayton, Kansas to the family farm. Ron received his education from Jennings, Kansas, graduating from Jennings High School.
Ronald was united in marriage to Donna Sharron Gilbert in 1961. The couple was blessed with three children: Tina, Rhonda and Galen. The family made their home in Grand Island, Nebraska for a period of time before settling to Holdrege. While in Holdrege, Ron owned and operated Stacey Construction, where he built homes and completed several remodeling projects. Later in years, they relocated to Oberlin, Kansas, where he continued his career in the construction business. In the early 1970s, Ronald traveled to Honduras for two months, to use his contracting skills to rebuild houses and churches that had been lost during Hurricane - Fifi.
In the years to come, Ron pursued a second career and received training as a Certified Nursing Aide. He was employed in Benkelman and Holdrege, Nebraska. He enjoyed his years as a CNA at the Christian Homes in Holdrege.
On April 3, 1999 he was united in marriage to Lois Sickels in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at the Nebraska Prairie Museum in Holdrege. They enjoyed competing in corn picking competitions throughout the Mid-West, winning several trophies. He enjoyed camping, fishing, racing go-carts and his favorite time of year was Christmas and Husker Football Season. He was a great cook, especially his Sunday dinners will be remembered fondly by his family. In earlier years, Ron enjoyed coaching his children's softball teams, and dancing with friends and family to his beloved Polka music. He also loved tending to his garden and rose bushes. Ron was a Christian man that loved the Lord, and his church throughout the years was very important to him. After making his home at the Christian Homes Care Community, he also enjoyed attending the chapel services and activities at the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Raymond Stacey and Lowell "Butch" Stacey. Ron is survived by his wife, Lois Stacey of Holdrege; his three children: Tina Meitl and her husband, Gary of Oberlin, Kansas, Rhonda Cox and her husband, Kenneth of Liberty, Missouri and Galen Stacey of Manhattan, Kansas; three step-sons: David Sickels and his wife, Debbie of Holdrege, Earnest Riley and his wife, Marsha of Atlanta, Georgia and Donald Sickels and his wife, Dawnette of Arlington, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 27great-grandchildren; one sister, Jackie Stacey of Grand Island, Nebraska and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial book signing for Ron will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Monday, December 29, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Ron's honor and will be designated at a later date.
