Funeral Services for Ronald D. Stuehm will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Mitch Ivey officiating. For the safety of all concerned, face coverings are encouraged.
Following the services, a private family interment will be held in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, south of Maxwell, Nebraska with military honors provided by the North Platte Honor Guard in conjunction with the United States Army Funeral Honors Team.
Due to health concerns, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; current CDC and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for Faith-Based Services and Gatherings will be followed. The Stuehm family sincerely encourages each person to make their decision whether to attend Ron's services, based on the best interest of your health, and that of your community. Ronald Dean Stuehm, 88 years of age, of Irving, Texas (formerly of Holdrege) passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020, at the Vitas Inpatient Hospice Unit in Dallas, Texas. Ronald was born June 12, 1932, in Ogallala, Nebraska, the second of three children to Arthur and Elva (Inwersen) Stuehm. He received his primary education from a rural school through the eighth grade near Roscoe, Nebraska, and then attended Ogallala High School, graduating with the class of 1950.
Following his education, Ronald moved with his parents to a farm near Smithfield, Nebraska in 1952. He enjoyed recalling many memories of farm life in both areas.
He was inducted into the United States Army on November 5, 1952, serving with the 135 Artillery in Korea. Following his honorable discharge on November 4, 1954, Ronald was employed by Sears Chevrolet and Oldsmobile Garage as a bookkeeper.
On September 25, 1955, he was united in marriage to A. Katherine Brott, and to this union two sons were born: Gary and Randy. The family farmed north of Smithfield, until moving to an acreage north of Holdrege in 1969. He was then employed by Cudahy as a hog buyer until the plants closed in Denver, Colorado and Wichita, Kansas. Prior to that, Ron was employed at several livestock auctions including Lexington for many years as the clerk.
He graduated from Reisch World Wide College of Auctioneering Inc. in 1979, and enjoyed holding public auctions of all kinds. During his retirement years, Ron worked at Sun Mart Foods and enjoyed interacting with customers as he sacked, and helped carry out their groceries.
Ron and Katherine were devoted members of the Grace Fellowship Church in Kearney. Ron loved to go to Church and spend time with the body of Believers. He enjoyed the presence of the Lord after he was born again.
Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children; and grandchildren. In his younger years, Ron thoroughly enjoyed the game of baseball, especially pitching; fishing; and bowling.
Besides his parents; Ron was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Henry and Anna Brott; brother, Laverne Stuehm; sisters-in-law: Jane Stuehm; Esther Brott; Carolyn Brott; Rosie Powell; and Lillian Brott; brothers-in-law: Harry Brott and his wife, Ethel; Hank Brott; John Brott and his wife, Marion; Reinholdt Brott; Walter Brott and his wife, Norma; Leo Brott and his wife, Twyla; and his second wife, Marguerite;William Brott and his wife, Donna; and Marvin Brott and his wife, Lillace.
Ron leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of almost 65 years, Katherine Stuehm of Irving; two sons: Gary Stuehm and his wife, Barbara of Flower Mound, Texas; and Randy Stuehm and his wife, Joan of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three granddaughters: Gabrielle Bates and her husband, Caleb; Christina Stuehm and her fiancé, Drew; and Anna Stuehm; brother, Kenneth Stuehm of Cozad, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Virginia Stuehm of Elwood, Nebraska; and Shirley Brott of North Platte, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Harvey Brott and his wife, Jeanne of North Platte; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Ron's honor, and kindly suggested to the Grace Fellowship Church in Kearney; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
