Roy C. Rodenbaugh, 75 years of age, of Loomis, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2018 at his home in Loomis. Roy was born December 14, 1942 on his grandparent's farm near Woodruff in Phillips County, Kansas, the eldest of five children born to Raymond C. and Helen R. (Young) Rodenbaugh. He received his primary education in Woodruff. After his Dad began working for the CB & Q Railroad, Roy continued his education at Stamford, and Republican City, Nebraska. The family moved to Franklin, Nebraska in 1958, where Roy graduated from Franklin High School with the class of 1960.
Following his education, Roy followed his father's footsteps and began working for the railroad. In 1959, new neighbors across the street led Roy to meeting the love of his life, Wanda. On June 27, 1961, he was united in marriage to Wanda R. Kennedy at the United Methodist Church in Republican City. To this union four children were born: Rex, Wynette, Reve, and Ryan. The first two years of their marriage, Roy worked for the railroad in Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming. On March 3, 1963, Roy began a long career with the United States Postal Service. He began as a substitute clerk-carrier in Franklin, and served as Officer in Charge in Cairo, Nebraska, and worked in the mail center in Grand Island, Nebraska. In 1979, he was appointed Postmaster in Loomis, where he served in that position for the next 25 years. Roy retired in April of 2004. During his postal career, Roy served as the President of the Nebraska Branch of the National League of Postmasters, and was honored as the Postmaster of the Year in 1994.
Roy enjoyed dancing, and was a talented vocalist; singing throughout the years at many weddings, and funerals. Roy was also a talented woodworker, building two family homes, and many special memories were formed hunting deer with his children, and grandchildren.
During retirement years, Roy enjoyed working for the next 10 years, at the Wal-Mart Garden Center in Lexington, Nebraska. After being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, Roy demonstrated unbelievable courage, and continued to keep his sense of humor. His caring demeanor will always be remembered by his family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Helen; and Lawrence Schriner, second husband of Helen; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Vern and Sylvia Kennedy; Ivan Breinig, second husband, of Sylvia; one brother, Bobby Rodenbaugh; and brothers-in-law: Wesley Kennedy, Bill Kennedy, Dick Kennedy, and Rodger Wiles.
