Funeral Services for Royce L. Larson will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, Nebraska with Pastor Daren Popple officiating. Inurnment will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in rural Maxwell, Nebraska with military honors provided by the North Platte Honor Guard in conjunction with the Offutt U.S. Air Force Base Military Funeral Honors Team.
Royce LaVale Larson, 76 years of age, of rural Axtell, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Royce was born November 30, 1942 in rural Buffalo County, north of Kearney, Nebraska, the second of three sons born to R. Marcellus "Mike" and Alberta L. (Carson) Larson. He received his education from the Axtell Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1960.
Following his education, Royce was inducted into the United States Air Force on November 3, 1960. He served as a field mechanic during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on November 2, 1964.
On August 17, 1962, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Rae "Kathy" Beaird at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Axtell, and to this union, they were blessed with three children: Jeff, Andrea and Devin. The family made their home on a farm in rural Axtell, where Royce engaged in his life-long passion of farming.
Royce enjoyed attending his children's sporting events and later in life, his grandchildren's sporting events. He loved to read, especially the newspaper, watching sports and mowing.
He was a member of the Buffalo County American Legion Post #52 in Kearney and Bethel Lutheran Church.
Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by; his brothers, Ronald C. Larson; and Richard L. Larson; his step-mother, Jean Larson; and his aunt and uncle, Ingrid and Don Hewitt.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Kathy of rural Axtell; his children: Jeff Larson and his wife, Dawn, of Yankton, South Dakota; Andrea Runge and her husband, Brett of Axtell; and Devin Larson and his wife, Deena of Leavenworth, Kansas; 13 grandchildren: Jade Olson and her husband, Curt; Bryce Runge; Brandt Runge and his wife, Carlie; Brennan Runge; Aaron Larson; Lindsay Larson; Ashley Ann Larson; Ally Larson; Maggie Larson; Tori Larson; Megan Mack and her husband, Aaron; Ashley Rae Larson; and Emily Larson; 5 great-grandchildren: Anders, Royce, and Collins Olson; and Mason and McKinley Mack; one sister-in-law, Kathleen A. Larson of Kearney, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Book Signing will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Royce's honor and kindly suggested to Axtell Community Schools.
