Rozella R. Carda

Mass of Christian Burial for Rozella R. Carda will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Alma, Nebraska with Father Kishore Gorantla officiating.  Rosary will be recited, prior to Mass at the church at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, south of Maxwell, Nebraska.

Rozella Rowena (Arbogast) Carda, 86 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Harlan County Health System in Alma. Rozella was born on March 3, 1932 in Rooks County, Kansas, to Oran J. and Rena (Cadoret) Arbogast. She graduated from Webster Rural High School in Webster, Kansas.

On June 22, 1957, she was united in marriage to Joseph Francis Carda in Plainville, Kansas and to this union six children were born: Joseph, Anita, Maris, Marita, Petrina, and Damian. For years, while Joseph was employed as a lineman, they made their home in several mid-western states and Rozella was a dedicated homemaker and mother. In 1973, they finally made their home in Kearney, Nebraska, where Rozella worked for K-Mart Corporation until retirement, which brought them to Alma. On July 10, 2016, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph.

Rozella had a lifelong love of reading, especially westerns and love stories. In the past few years, even as her vision was failing, she was still able to enjoy the stories through her audio books. She also was a nature lover and the family spent many weekends at the lake camping, always staying until they absolutely had to go home. She was a great cook, and did a lot of canning from their always abundant garden. But, above all, she loved spending time with her children and their families.

Besides her parents and husband of 59 years, Joseph; she was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Carda, Jr.; her grandson, Zachary Carda; two brothers: Leigh and Harley Arbogast; one sister, Emaline Kennedy; and two brothers-in-law:  Stanley and Clarence Carda.

Rozella leaves to celebrate her life, her children: Anita Wortman and her husband, Mike of Kearney; Maris Carda of Alma; Marita Fishel and her husband, Donnie of Shelton, Nebraska; Petrina Maul and her husband, John of Kearney; and Damian Carda and his wife, Carla of Hastings, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren:  Jeremy Fishel and his wife, Lindsay; Brandon Fishel; Joseph Carda; Sarah Carda; Alyssa Maul; Jacob Carda; Dayton Maul; Tyler Carda; Amy Fishel; and Andrew Wortman and his wife, Jeanetta; her 5 great-grandchildren:  Lucas Fishel, Regan Fishel, Cashton Aiken, and Maci and Bentley Wortman; two brothers: Glenn Arbogast of York, Nebraska and Jack Arbogast of Downs, Kansas; sister-in-law, Helen Vavruska of Tyndall, South Dakota; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.

A memorial has been established in Rozella's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
