Funeral services for Ruth Agnes Anderson will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Erica Harley officiating. Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Ruth Agnes Anderson, 99 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Axtell, Nebraska), passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. She was born on September 2, 1911 on a farm northwest of Elm Creek in Buffalo County, Nebraska the third of four children born to Gilbert Adolph and Mary (Brodine) Englund. Most of her early life was spent on a farm north of Holdrege. She was confirmed June 13, 1926 at the Moses Hill Mission Church and baptized as an adult on January 29, 1966 in Buffalo, New York. Ruth attended rural school District #25 and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1930.

On February 28, 1941 she was united in marriage to Maynard R. Anderson in Phillipsburg, Kansas and shortly after their marriage they moved to Buffalo, New York where Maynard was employed during World War II at Bell Aircraft Company and Ruth was employed as a secretary. They made their home there for 36 years before moving to Axtell, Nebraska in 1977. In 1984 they moved to Harlingen, Texas where they enjoyed retirement square dancing and watching baseball and Ruth enjoyed crocheting. Ruth's favorite baseball team was the Chicago Cubs. The couple returned to Axtell in December of 1993 due to Maynard's failing health. Maynard passed away on September 8, 1994. Ruth continued to live in Axtell before moving to Holdrege Memorial Homes on July 30, 2001.

Besides her parents and husband, Maynard, Ruth was preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle Roads and her husband, Harold; two brothers: Clarence Englund in infancy and Melvin Englund, Sr.

Ruth leaves to mourn her passing her niece, Mary Ann Olson of Axtell, four nephews: Bob Roads of Harlingen, Texas, Don Roads and his wife, Sue of Axtell, Melvin Englund, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Kearney, Nebraska, Richard Englund and his wife, Doreene of Doniphan, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Verda Englund of Lexington, Nebraska; Maynard's four nieces, Marlys Sundquist and her husband, Ron of Holdrege, Marlene Hodge and her husband, Lee of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, Connie Anderson and her husband, Ward of Elm Creek and Marilyn Hasbrouch of Holdrege.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in her name and will be designated at a later date.
