Funeral Services for Ruth L. Dutton-Louthan will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastors Nora Mendyk and Linda Knipping officiating. Following traditional services, cremation will take place and a private family inurnment will held at Holbrook Cemetery at Holbrook, Nebraska at a later date.
Ruth Lucille (Foster) Dutton-Louthan, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2019, at St. Luke's Good Samaritan Society in Kearney, Nebraska. Ruth was born February 3, 1932, at Cambridge, Nebraska, the second of fourteen children born to Ray Otis and Marie Ann (Rhoades) Foster. She received her education from Arapahoe, Cambridge and Holbrook Public Schools, graduating from Holbrook High School with the class of 1950.
On May 6, 1950, she was united in marriage to Forest "Frosty" Dutton. The couple made their home in several Nebraska cities including: Guide Rock, Ogallala, Sargent, Trenton, Culbertson, and then Holbrook. While at Holbrook Ruth was employed at the telephone office. Ruth and Forest then relocated to Mesa, Arizona, where she worked at Newberry's Department Store for two years, until she started her career as the billing and account clerk for the City of Mesa, retiring in 1982 after 22 years of service.
In 1960, Ruth was baptized at the First United Methodist Church in Mesa, and then became a charter member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Mesa. While in Mesa, Ruth enjoyed her membership of the Wesleyan's group. She also belonged to a group of about 8 women called the "Joy Belles" who went to nursing homes throughout the years and gave musical programs for the residents. Ruth and Frosty moved back to Holdrege, where they enjoyed traveling in their motor home to nearly all the States in the Union. On March 9, 2005, Frosty preceded her in death after 55 years of marriage.
On March 21, 2013, she was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Louthan at the Gold Canyon Methodist Church in Gold Canyon, Arizona by a good family friend.
Ruth was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, where she was active with the Naomi group. She also enjoyed camping, and was skilled in crocheting and sewing.
Besides her husband, Frosty and her parents; she was preceded in death by; three brothers: Harold Foster; Timmy Foster; and Harvey Foster; brothers-in-law: Danny Frahm and Louis Parks; sister-in-law, Marjorie Foster; and step-sons: Larry Louthan; John Louthan; and Richard Louthan and his wife, Becki; and a step grandson, Thaddeus Louthan.
Ruth leaves to celebrate her life; her husband, Bob Louthan of Kearney; four brothers: Lloyd Foster of Holdrege; Edward Foster of Redlands, California; Jerry Foster and his wife, Carolyn of Holbrook; and Curtis Foster and his wife, Karen of LaVista, Nebraska; six sisters: Erma Parks of McCook, Nebraska; Shirley Carter and her husband, Gene of McCook; Dorothy Kline and her husband, Dwight of Ames, Nebraska; Glenva Frahm of Minden; Janet Stratton of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Carla Kinne and her husband, Howard of McCook; two step-children: Randy Louthan of Loomis, Nebraska; Cheryl Gentzler and her husband, Tom of Indianola, Iowa; numerous step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Ruth's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
