A visitation for Ruth "Deloris" Gustafson will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A private interment will be held at Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Funk.
A memorial service for Ruth "Deloris" Gustafson will be held on Friday, June 13, at 2:30 p.m. at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, Nebraska with Pastor Daren Popple officiating.
Ruth "Deloris" Gustafson, 94 years of age, of rural Funk, Nebraska, died on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Deloris was born November 2, 1930, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the youngest of nine children born to John C. and Emma (Swenson) Johnson. She received her primary education from Crooks, South Dakota and then attended and graduated from Lyons High School in Lyons, South Dakota, with the class of 1948. Deloris pursued higher education from Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska.
Following her education, Deloris taught for two years in Wilber, Nebraska, and then worked in an insurance office prior to her marriage.
On March 25, 1956, Deloris was united in marriage to Carl A.A. Gustafson at Crooks, South Dakota and to this union three sons were born: Bryan, Steven and Jon. She worked for several years at Axtell Community Schools, as a Teacher's Aid.
She was a member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church and served on the Church Board, the Friendship Circle Neighbors Club, the Quilting Club, and was active with Bridge Clubs. Deloris also served on the Phelps Memorial Health Center Board of Director's for eight years.
Deloris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl in 2012; all of her siblings and their spouses; and one brother-in-law, Harold Gustafson and his wife, Gerry.
She leaves three sons to celebrate her life: Bryan Gustafson and his wife, Michelle of Springfield, Nebraska; Steven Gustafson and his wife, Susan of rural Funk; and Jon Gustafson and his wife, Teresa of Stillwater, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren: Cara Small and her husband Andrew of Omaha, Nebraska; Jared Gustafson of Lenexa, Kansas; Casey Sexton and her husband, Matt of Lexington, Nebraska; Eric Gustafson and his wife, Ashley of Axtell, Nebraska; Weston Gustafson and his wife Allison of Axtell; Jack Macias of Arlington, Texas; Cade Gustafson of Columbia, Missouri; and Marc Gustafson of Maryville, Missouri; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Deloris' honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
