Funeral Services for Ruth E. Lazaroff will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska with Reverend Jean Clayton officiating. Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery.
Ruth Elinor Lazaroff, 84 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society - St. John's in Kearney, Nebraska. Ruth was born December 1, 1930, at Woodruff, Kansas, the youngest of two children born to Centenial G. and Bonnie (Hopkins) Franke. She received her education three miles south of Woodruff at the Independence Country School and later graduated from Long Island High School in Long Island, Kansas, with the class of 1948.
On April 27, 1957, she was united in marriage to James Lazaroff, Jr., at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Alma and to this union two sons were born: Arlen Wray and Lauren Frank. The family made their home in Alma, where Ruth worked at the telephone company for 13 years. In 1970, Ruth then began working as a store clerk for the Stuhmer's Ben Franklin and Hanna Variety store until her retirement in 2001. On December 17, 2007, she was preceded in death by her husband, James. In 2001, Ruth began to make her home at the Parkview Manor in Alma. In 2013, she made her home at the Hillcrest Terrace Assisted Living in Alma. Ruth made her home at the Colonial Villa in Alma for a short time until making her home at the Good Samaritan Society - St. John's in Kearney, in 2014 to be closer to her family.
Ruth was baptized in 1939 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Woodruff and in her adult years, transferred her membership to the United Methodist Church in Alma.
Ruth enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens, cooking and reading. She also enjoyed many years singing in the church choir, but most importantly loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, James; Ruth was preceded in death by: a son, Arlen Wray Lazaroff in 2005; and her brother, Reverend Carl Franke in 2002.
Ruth leaves to mourn her passing; her son, Lauren Lazaroff and his wife, Tanya of Kearney; three grandchildren: Rhianna, Nolin, and Loghan Lazaroff all of Kearney; sister-in-law, Leanora "Lea" Benson of Herford, Arizona; along with many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma, Nebraska.
A memorial has been established in Ruth's honor and will be designated at a later date.
