Funeral Services for Ruth I. Nelson will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, Nebraska with Pastor Tom Thompson officiating. Interment will be held at the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand following the services.

Ruth Irene Nelson, 95 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Loomis) passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Ruth was born on October 22, 1918, on the family farm eleven miles south of Bertrand, in Gosper County, Nebraska, the fifth of eight children born to John F. and Mabel H. (Sandin) Paulsen. She received her education from the District #25 rural school in Gosper County.

Following her education, Ruth moved to Denver, Colorado, where she met Eddie McQueen Sr. and the couple were united in marriage and one son, Eddie L. McQueen was born to this union. Ruth and her son, Eddie later moved back to Nebraska and resided on the family farm.

On February 16, 1947, Ruth was united in marriage to Densmore M. Nelson and the couple engaged in farming in the Bertrand and Loomis area until 1972. Ruth and Densmore then relocated to Overton, where they were both employed by Plectron. In 1976, they settled back to Phelps County and resided in Loomis. Ruth was then employed by Artistic Woven Label at Holdrege until her retirement. On August 26, 1983 she was preceded in death by her husband, Densmore. Ruth continued to reside in Loomis in her retirement years until her health began to fail due to a stroke in 2008, at which time she began to make her home at the Christian Homes Care Community.

Ruth was a member of the Loomis Evangelical Free Church. She enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, loved to read her Bible and most of all she enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities.

Besides her husband, Densmore and her parents; Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Annita Frew; one granddaughter in infancy and one great-granddaughter, Camille in infancy; her three sisters: Louise Paulsen, Myrtle Clayton and her husband, Tom and Irene Griffith and her husband, Claude; three brothers: Albert Paulson and his wife, Alberta, Herbert Paulson and his wife, Helen, and Roy Paulson and his wife, Myrtle; sister-in-law: Edna Paulsen; and brothers-in-law: Harold Nelson and his wife, Alice, Norris Nelson and Arnold Kirwan.

She leaves to mourn her passing; her two sons: Eddie McQueen and his wife, Edith of Westminster, Colorado and Terry Nelson and his wife, Patricia of Loomis; son-in-law, Richard Frew of Grand Island, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Barbara Casna and her husband, Bob, Andrea Nataf, Stephanie Klein and her husband, Andy, Marcie Youngquist and her husband, Matthew, Gregory Nelson, Karri Clement and Kim Peters and her husband, Ryan; twenty great-grandchildren; one brother, John Paulsen of Holdrege; sister-in-law, Dorothy Kirwan of Kearney, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Ruth's honor and will designated at a later date.
