The family made their home in Oxford and Almena, Kansas, where Ruth operated her own beauty shop out of her home, which was called Ruth's Beauty Shop. Her fun-loving spirit and sense of humor will always be remembered. She was often referred to as "Yellow Bird", which was a nickname that was given to her in reference to her yellow car. Ruth could often be heard from across the room in a crowd of friends or family, as suddenly a "Whoop De Doo" captured everyone's attention.
