Funeral Services for Ruth M. Soderberg will be conducted from the Christian Homes Chapel in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. with Chaplain DeWane Dow, officiating. Interment will be in the Stamford Cemetery at Stamford, Nebraska.
Ruth May Soderberg, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Christian Homes in Holdrege. Ruth was born August 11, 1920 at Alma, Nebraska, the youngest of six children of Albert and Allie (Gibson) Burkey. She received her primary education from Alma Public School, graduating from Alma High School with the class of 1938. Ruth then pursued higher education at Midland College to received her teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools in Phelps County for six years and in the Holdrege Public School System for five years.
On July 25, 1946 she was united in marriage to Theodore Mauritz Soderberg. The couple continued to reside in Holdrege, where Ruth was employed by Becton-Dickinson from 1970 – 1975. On July 18, 1976, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ted. In September of 1997, Ruth made her home at the Christian Homes.
Ruth was a member of the North Park Assembly of God Church in Holdrege, she enjoyed many friendship bonds formed through the years in Bible study and assisted at Sehnert's Bakery where her husband was a baker.
She leaves to mourn her passing one niece, a host of nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Ted, she was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters: Marillo Burkey, who died at 1 ½ years of age, Dorothy Johnson and her husband, Gust, Mary Mellberg and her husband, Tom, Louise Ibsen and her husband, Marvin and Lenore Olson and her husband, Ralph.
Ruth will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Sunday, July 27, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
