Funeral Services for Sandy S. Wilcox will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home of Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Kenton Birtell, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.
Sandy Sue Wilcox, 65 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at her home in Holdrege. She was born October 5, 1943 at Hastings, Nebraska, the youngest of six children born to August and Minnie (Kaiser) Katzberg. Sandy was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings. She received her education from Hastings, graduating from Hastings High School with the class of 1961. Following her education she was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary for the Brach Thompson Department Store in Hastings. While working at the department store she met her future husband and October 13, 1963 she was united in marriage to Michael E. Wilcox and to this union three daughters were born: Lisa Dawn, Becky Jo and Julie Ann.
The family made their home in Hastings, where Sandy continued her work as a bookkeeper and secretary for Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital and the John Lainson Company. In 1970, the family moved to Oxford, Nebraska, where Sandy was employed by Mid-Nebraska Individual Services. In 1975, they moved to Holdrege and Sandy was employed by Artistic Woven Labels until her retirement.
Sandy enjoyed collecting ceramic unicorns and loved to sew in her free time. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Becky Jo on September 2, 1992 and two brothers: Dale and Leland Katzberg.
Sandy leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Mike of Holdrege; two daughters: Lisa Beason of Holdrege and Julie Skiles and her husband, Sean of Clovis, California; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Wayne Katzberg and his wife, Helen of Hastings and Bob Katzberg of California, Maryland; one sister, Janice DeTour and her husband, Bernie of Hastings; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Friday, August 21, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
